I don't know why they're so popular? Besides of comfort and height adding I can't see any reason for wearing them. Shoes should be sexy, sophisticated, attractive and alluring, point out the style and give the edge to the outfit. But fashion is fun and even ugly can be new beutiful... Just don't combine these massive blocks with delicate and romantic dress, PLEASE! They only look good with thick/ heavy fabric (wool, cashmere, tweed) dresses with sharply highlighted outline.
